Composer's Note:
“This piece is a tribute to my 94 year old father in law . Although I have known him for over 30 years, it is only lately that I have learned about him.
Stubborn as they come, determined to get better and generous beyond belief. “A Gentle Man” was inspired by and dedicated to him.
It contains a simple melody, simply introduced. When the full band comes in with it there is much going on. Especially a powerful but simple counter melody in the alto saxes and F horns.
In the middle the mood and style changes to reflect his younger self. Full of energy and optimism. The song ends with the full band once again playing the main melody in all it’s symphonic glory."
"A Gentle Man" is perhaps embodiment of all fathers. This new and refreshing concert band piece will create a lasting impression on both the performers as well as the audience. Enjoy!
