“Autumnal Eve” by Thomas Juzwiak, ASCAP
Composer's note: “Autumnal Eve” is a selection for full concert band. It paints the picture of Summer transitioning into Fall. And just as the leaves on the trees will show many colors, I too showcase the many colors of a Wind Band. From the use of just 1 or 2 instruments, to 3 and 4 to the entire ensemble. I try to make full use of the “palette” before me.
This is NOT a piece for middle school (unless the are full and experienced). Medium level high school I should think. Most of the ranges are within reason of an ensemble of this skill. A couple ranges are stretched just a bit, but certainly nothing unattainable.
A gentle piece for the most part. However it will show the changes that occur between the seasons. You can even imagine the leaves starting to fall from the trees. First one then two then a bunch.
