Note from the composer: Partly inspired by my looking out the window at a New Jersey coming Winter. Overcast skies, bare trees, leaves on the ground being blown around from a brisk, chilly wind.
It uses a somewhat limited full band instrumentation (for example: only 2 clarinets, 1 alto sax, 1 horn, 2 trumpets and 1 trombone), but achieves a full sound. Ranges are moderate. The 1st clarinet goes above the break to an “E” and the flutes go up to a high “G”".
Softly easing into the quiet moments of winter, this reflective piece evokes images of falling snow amid the graying sky of the season.
