“At Play” is an example of that all important song that reminds us all that amongst all things that music is, it is also fun. Written for the 2nd or 3rd year player it comes with an “optional Bb Clarinet” part that goes slightly over the break to the 3rd space “C”. If you do not use it, the song loses nothing. Much of the song is also written in unison. The percussion should have an extra fun time using some rarely used percussion instruments to add to the “ flavor” of the song.“At Play” is that all important song that needs to be positioned within a concert program to break the “serious” compositions up. It holds the spot of keeping the band, band director and most importantly the audience, interested in the overall performance. All involved will have a lot of fun with it.
